Meet the Designer: Jessica Barker
“I wanted to create a line of wearable, everyday fine jewelry that flirts with the past and feels just right for the present. And I put care into choosing materials that are kinder to people and the planet: Recycled gold, ethically sourced gems, and eco-friendly packaging. My hope is that these are pieces you’ll feel good in – and materials you’ll feel good about – for years to come.”
Born in England and raised Stateside, Jess followed her curiosities from Chicago to NYC and back. After being immersed in costume design and theatre school, she earned a Master of Arts in fashion history from New York University and holds an Applied Jewelry Professional diploma from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
She began Nine Golden Swans in 2020, quickly evolving it from a blog to a vintage shop before revisiting her design roots and launching the debut fine jewelry collection in 2021.
Her designs are bold and strong in style, yet delicate and delightfully tactile when worn. Look closely and you’ll find inspiration from her English heritage and design history studies. Jess loves shaking the dust off of timeless motifs, playing with movement and light, and injecting feel-good vibes into fine jewelry.
You can usually find her curled up on a blue velvet sofa with a cat and a cuppa, humming along to Elton John or Ella Fitzgerald.
